• "Exploring Robin Boyd's Vision: A Swinburne University Collaborative Project", is a research, development and educational and industry collaboration. It is a joint exploration between Swinburne educators, Swinburne 1st. year students and industry; between business and design. Robin Boyd was an exceptional designer and humanitarian, a role model for the future.

  • We are focused on our journey of innovation, sustainability, disruption, and renewal, dedicated to creating the future's technology and talent today.

"Exploring Robin Boyd's Vision: A Swinburne University Collaborative Project" is an excellent opportunity for both the Diploma of Interior Design and the Diploma of Business students to engage, to work collaboratively, to create a unique exhibition based on a unique house. Boyd's revolutionary vision was for a more environmental, sustainable world view. Sometimes we need to look back in order to move forward.

  • Our industry partnerships, include numerous interior design offices and architectural firms, offering design support throughout the academic year and employment opportunities for our students. Our valued allies, such as KBDi, Esckerleys and other industry people such as E&S Trading openly support our student's industrial education by their design awards, their open visitation days and are also employment pathways for recent graduates.

  • This project brings together two disparate teaching units, Interior Design and Business. It enables students from these diverse departments to find common ground in creating a design exhibition and understanding each other's academic journey, the complexities and the similarities of these different academic units, their requirements and their outcomes. In the non-academic world these different disciplines are aligned, business needs interior design, interior design needs business. The co-dependence of these seemingly unaligned disciplines reinforces the complexities of the non-academic.

    Michelle Christie Project Leader

  • This project is aligned with the units of competency, BSBCRT512 Originate & Develop Concepts, MSFID5027 Research and Recommend Colour Applications and Finishes, and the Business unit BSBPMG430 Undertake Project Work. These units build upon the research conducted in MSFID4019, which delved into the Interior Decoration and Design Influences of the iconic Robin Boyd Walsh Street, House.
